New Anonymous Social Network Set For Launch

WebProNews spoke to Eddie Krassenstein, CEO of Anonymous You, a new social networking site launching on Tuesday April 27th. The site AY.com allows users to create profiles similar to other sites such as Facebook, but differs in that users leaving comments on a profile page are completely anonymous. Krassenstein said he came up with the concept of AY.com “because there have been so many times when I found myself and my friends wishing we could answer questions or make comments anonymously.” Krassenstein says being anonymous allows people to more easily provide truthful insight. To create an account on AY.com users can login with their Facebook account, as well as post updates to their Twitter or Facebook streams when they add something to their AY stream. When asked if the site will be ad-supported Krassenstein said,” once traffic to the site begins to pick up, we will most likely offer some sort of advertising.

Monetizing Facebook Fans Through Discounts

We’ve written several times recently about Facebook’s role in e-commerce . WebProNews spoke with Christian Taylor CEO of Payvment , which has been offering a Facebook storefront application to retailers since the beginning of November, and is now giving them a way to get people more interested in buying from them. It’s simple really – if a Facebook user comes across one of the retailers utilizing Payvment, they will be able to get discounts on merchandise for becoming a fan. That ought to drive some interest in Facebook e-commerce and user engagement with retail brands. “As Facebook’s F8 conference approaches, many companies still wonder how they can transform Facebook from a “soft” relationship and marketing tool to something that will actually have an effect on their company’s bottom line.

Quantify Value of Micro-Conversions to Avoid Bad Decisions

As online marketing and search engine marketing in particular have evolved over the years, more and more metrics and data sources have become available to marketers. This is a great thing for analyzing campaigns and strategies, learning from them and improving upon them. However, all of this data can get extremely overwhelming, which is why it’s important to have strategies for the analytical process itself. A couple weeks ago, Google’s Analytics Evangelist, Avinash Kaushik gave a keynote speech at Search Engine Strategies New York. WebProNews interviewed him shortly after, picking his brain about how online marketers can sort through and maximize the incredible amounts of data they have access to. Kaushik says a lot of people will open their analytics tool and just look at the top ten or twenty rows of data, but there are strategies to help you see more of the picture. A few specific examples: – In-line segmentation – Tag Clouds – Keyword trees Basically, these are all things that can take large amounts of keywords and let you visualize the top performers, and understand the data. It can help you look at how strong your brand terms are, compared with different categories, for example. These things are explored further in Avinash’s keynote: Avinash places great emphasis on quantifying the economic value of things – your different goals. Quantify the “micro-conversions” as he calls them. This could be placing a dollar value on RSS feed subscribers, or on ad clicks, affiliate clicks, number of reviews, number of downloads, number of phone calls that were made to convert offline, etc. “Quantify the complete impact of a site, otherwise you’re going to be making bad decisions,” he says. The more you can break down your site in terms of the goals you are trying to achieve, and place specific values on these goals, the better you can understand the bigger picture and the vast amount of analytical data that concerns the performance of your online marketing efforts.

Goober Thinks It Has the Better iPhone VoIP/IM Apps

Goober announced the availability of a new VoIP app and an IM app for the iPhone and iPod Touch this week. The company shared a few details with WebProNews about what makes its apps stand out from the competition. “Goober, besides Skype, is the only company offering versatile and flexible flatrates,” a Goober representative tells WebProNews. “The flatrate prices are about the same as Skype’s while the per minute rates are drastically lower.” “Goober 1minute US calls cost for example, 1 cent compared to Skype’s 2.1cent; other countries are around 1.4 cents/minute, but that only occurs in 10% of all calls like if you call an Indian reservation in Cheyenne J On average the per minute prices are between 25% – 50% below Skype’s per minute rates,’ she says. “Overall goober is about 50% cheaper than Skype in the US and Canada because the 1 cent rate is used in 90% of all calls.” If you want to know what sets Goober apart from other instant message apps, “It’s the Webfolder were you have online access to your files and were you can upload files or for example images to a gallery, while you’re on the road,” the rep tells us. “The next version of goober IM for the iPhone will be multi-protocol, meaning you can chat from goober IM people using other IMs like Google or Yahoo.
